Obituary

Simala, Walter "Tom", 65, of Portage, passed away, April 6, 2023 in Pittsburgh. Born July 15, 1957 in Johnstown, the son of Michael and Gladys (Miller) Simala. Deceased family members include his parents; wife, Gisele (Thrower) Simala; son, Craig Thomas Simala, brother Michael Simala; and nephew, David A. Sybert. Survived by daughter, Chelsea Laree (Josh Carney) Simala; grandchildren, Landon James Simala, Emma Gisele Simala, Flora Iris Carney and Carver Fredrick Carney. Brother of, Theresa wife of David Sybert, Carlisle; and Paul Simala, Portage. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Served 7 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Formerly employed by Martindale Lumber, with 38 years service. Avid hunter, fisherman, Mechanic, loved to ride quads and motorcycles. Friends received from 6-8 PM, Tuesday at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Pastor Jerry Zuvers, officiating. Committal in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.
