Valerie Elaine Fletcher unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown, PA. She was born September 28, 1963, the daughter of Richard and Eunola (Adams) Fletcher. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard and her brother Forrest. She is survived by her mother Eunola (Nola Jean), her pups Miso and Kili, a sister, a brother, and many good friends.
Val earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Masters of Counselor Education from Millersville University. For over 30 years, she has served those in need within her community, holding various roles such as crisis intervention worker, intensive in-home family therapist, child grief specialist, and volunteer coordinator to name a few. She was currently employed by the Learning Lamp, Johnstown.
Val was the co-founder and VP for Veterans Outreach of PA. Being raised in a military family she had a true love for veterans, especially homeless veterans. Val established the Sweet Pea Project and the Forrest Foundation which believes in empowering people to make a difference in their communities. Val was also a member of the Portage Rotary Association.
The family is being served by the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home PC. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 am at the First Lutheran Church, 906 Caldwell Avenue, Portage, PA. A luncheon will be served at the Parkway Restaurant, Portage. Donations may be made in Val’s memory to Veterans Outreach of PA, PO Box 6127, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
