Stella Jenkins Obituary
Jenkins, Stella B. (Bem), 107, of, Portage, passed away January 17, 2020 at home. Born November 20, 1912 in Portage Twp., the daughter of Jacob and Tekla (Wasielak) Bem. Deceased family members include her parents, husband, Clarence Edward "Dutch" Jenkins, Jr.; brothers, John (Elfreida), Joseph (Opal), Michael (Frances), Edward (Edna), Adam (Sarah), and August Bem; sisters, Mary (Larry) Gamage and Cecelia (Arthur) Brozowski; five infant siblings and 4 nieces and 5 nephews. Survived by 8 nephews 7 nieces as well as numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. She graduated from Portage Area School and Lock Haven Teachers College in 1932 and taught elementary grades in Portage Area Schools for 42 years, retiring in 1974. Lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Portage; being an active member of Third Order of Secular Franciscans, Our Lady of Fatima Society, Rosary Society, and Senior Choir. Stella always had a positive attitude and looked for the good in all situations and people, often saying "This too will pass". She maintained her sense of humor to the end. She enjoyed music and live concert and theater performances. Friends will be received from 4-8 pm, Tuesday at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday at Holy Family Parish, Caldwell Ave, Portage. Father Tom Stabile, TOR, celebrant. Committal will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Portage.
