Smith, Ronald Jon, 53, of Fairfax, VA (formerly of Portage, PA), passed away November 12, 2020 at home. Born January 9, 1967, in Danville, PA, the son of Ronald and Janice (Koshak) Smith. Preceded in death by his grandparents John and Helen Koshak & Leo and Angela Smith, Aunt Stephanie Stefanko, Uncle Walter Pikarski, Aunt Dorothy Koshak, Aunt Mary Knepper, Uncle Richard Koshak, Uncle Donald Smith, Uncle Tony Smith, and Aunt Brenda Smith. Ron is survived, and will be deeply missed by, his husband Jeffrey Rabak; both of his parents; brother Christian (Patricia Canavan) and their children Kristyn and Trissa; sister Jennifer Pinos (Lance) and their children Preston, Nicholas, and Jordyn; Uncle John (Nancy) Koshak; In-laws Richard and Pamela Rabak; Brother-in-law Tim Rabak (Natalie) and their children Lucy and Olivia; Brother-in-law Matt Rabak (Alicia) and their children Katie and Andrew; and Sister-in-law Mary Kabler (Ben) and their children Noah, Ariana, and Heidi. Also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Ron will always be remembered as a very ‘people-loving’ person with an outgoing personality. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fanatic, he enjoyed traveling and detailing cars, and he loved interacting and working with others. Especially important to him was the time he spent with his many nieces and nephews. Ron was employed as the Director of Catering at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Virginia. His previous employment included Director of Sales at the Doubletree by Hilton in Washington, DC; Director of Events at Davidson Hotels and Resorts in Washington, DC; Regional Director of Catering and Convention Services at the Wyndam Hotels and Resorts; and Senior Catering Sales Manager at the Wyndam Garden Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA. Ron was a 1985 graduate of Portage Area High School, a 1989 Political Science graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, and a 1991 Public Administration MBA graduate from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Relatives will be received from 9:00am to 11:00am on Saturday, November 21st, at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at Holy Family Parish, Portage.
