Shiber, Robert Francis, Jr., 97, of Munster Township, a life-long resident until May 2017 when relocation was necessary due to complications of health and aging; Robert relocated to Columbia County, PA., closer to his son for the remainder of his life. Most recently and where he passed away, he was a resident of Fritzingertown Senior Living Community in Drums, PA. Born July 16, 1922, in Munster Twp., the son of Robert and Clotilda (Willebran) Shiber. He was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He married the former Stasia Chwatek on October 6, 1956 until her death on September 28, 2005. Robert is survived by his sister, Lucille Whiteford of Patton, PA., Daughters Ella Marie Bond and husband John, Lisa Ann Saltsgiver and husband Robert, and son Louis James Shiber and wife Roxann, along with seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Robert had a full life; a Veteran of WWII; he served in the Army as an Infantryman in the European Theatre of Operations. Fought in active battle in Central Europe and the Rhineland, and was a recipient of two campaign medals. He often mentioned during his life on earth that he was extremely fortunate that he was not the recipient of a purple heart and came home uninjured. Robert was employed primarily by the Sam Rea Railroad Repair Shops in Hollidaysburg, PA where he was employed as a welder. In between economic recessions he worked in the construction trade, farming, and road crews. He was a Munster Township Supervisor for many years. Robert enjoyed the time afforded with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, telling stories, spinning wool, and had an uncanny "HOW DO" when answering his telephone. Unforgettable to most. The family would like to thank the employees of Fritzingertown and Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick, PA for the care provided the past 17 months. Friends will be received from 9-11 a.m., Saturday 2/22/2020 at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday at Holy Family Parish, Caldwell Ave., Portage, Father Thomas Stabile, TOR, Celebrant. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum, Portage.
