Vargo, Michael S., 96, Portage, passed away December 10, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center. Born September 6, 1924 in Portage the son of John Vargo Sr. and Mary (Kosterna) Vargo. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Edna (Stovich) Oklamchak-Vargo; brothers and sisters, Paul Vargo; Pauline Costaney ; John Vargo; Mary Olsick; Helen Vargo; Joseph Vargo; and infant siblings, Ann; Peter; and Steve. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, who will sadly and greatly miss him. There are three local nieces, Patricia Davis, Theresa Merritts and Stephanie Pacsai, who tended to his wants and needs over the years. Survived by step children, Marianne (Don) Hazlett, Jeanne (Michael) May; John (Rebecca Gailey) and their families. Michael was a Sgt. in the US Army during WW II and fought in the European Theater as a heavy machine gunner. Former owner of Brockway Service in Ohio and was the installer for nine years. After returning to Portage he was a repairman and installer for Duffy's TV and retired after 24 years of service. Member of Post #430 American Legion. His faith was of utmost importance to him and he served faithfully as an Adult Altar Server, Lector, and Eucharistic Minister at the former St. Mary's Church. One of his fondest memories, which he loved to talk about, was his 95th birthday party. He loved the fact that he got to spend time with family and friends, eat sweet treats, drink his Mountain Dew, and talk about the "good ole days". Due to COVID restrictions, services will be at the convience of the family. A Funeral Mass will be held in his honor at a later date. Military Funeral Rites by the Portage Ritual Team.
