Castel, Lorraine M. (Earnest), 80, Portage, passed away July 20, 2024 at Maple Winds Care Center, Portage. Born August 6, 1943 in Portage, the daughter of Ken and Helen (Ambrisco) Earnest. Deceased family members include her parents; husband of 32 years, Theodore J. Castel, Sr.; Brothers, Wesley and Robert Earnest; Sister, Rosemary (Earnest) Sigado; and Stepchildren, Lori, Mark and wife Sally (Minor) Castel. Survived by children, Theodore Castel, Jr. and wife Elizabeth (Fox); Matthew Castel and wife Kim (Robine), Christine wife of Donald Goughnour; Casey Castel and Robert Castel and wife Christy (King); and grandchildren, Caliber, Calyx, Mason, Logan, Aliza, Max, Revin, Raina, Kaleb, Blake, and Karter. Stepchildren, Theodora “Cookie” wife of Joe Silva; Adonna wife of Greg Heming, Tracey wife of Bob Nadolsky; and Carmen wife of David Iseminger. Lorraine was the step-grandmother of numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. 1961 graduate of Portage Area High School. Attended Lock Haven University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Penn State in pursuit of her degrees. Retired Mathematics Teacher at Portage Area High School for 34 years, she was the K-12 chairperson for the mathematics department from inception to her retirement; National Honor Society Advisor for the majority of her teaching career; Secretary for the PAEA (Portage Area Education Association); and GED Teacher for the Altoona Area School District for 25 years. She started her teaching career at Bishop Carroll High School (girls only-Algebra 1) for 1 year. Lorraine was an active and dedicated member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Polish National Catholic Church in Lilly, PA, where she enjoyed communing with both her pastor and fellow parishioners. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Family and Friends will be received from 3-8, p.m., Friday at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Polish National Catholic Church in Lilly, with Rev. Dr. Scott Lill, celebrant. Committal in church cemetery.
