Hearts Love 33

Jodi Dalene (Bowen) Sweeney

October 13, 1978 ~ October 30, 2021 (age 43)

Sweeney, Jodi Dalene (Bowen), 43, Altoona passed away October 30, 2021. She was born October 13, 1978, joining big brother Jason to complete the family of Ed and Joan Bowen. Jodi was such a happy child, but like all children, she also had times when she was not so well behaved. She loved her brother Jason very much but often teased and harassed him. In most of the neighborhoods wherever we lived when Jodi was a child, she seemed to gravitate to the role of being "mother" of the group. Because her dad was in the Army, the family moved about every 2 years or so. She was involved in ballet, gymnastics, and music through her school years. Jodi attended Kindergarten in California, elementary school in Germany and Hawaii, high school in Hawaii and Washington State. She was a 1996 graduate of Auburn Adventist Academy. After the family moved to Maryland she began training and working with EMS and felt she had found the career she wanted do the rest of her life. Instead, she got married and raised her two beautiful daughters Kianna and Cheyanne. Her husband Tim was also Army and they lived at several stateside duty stations. This marriage ended in divorce. Jodi was a Gold Star daughter and became a peer mentor for TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) after the death of her father. She was always willing to help and encourage others in need. Jodi endured several hardships in her adult life, but she was a fighter and came through a stronger person, except for the MS which is believed to have begun about 20 years ago and progressively worsened. About 5 years ago she received the diagnosis of MS. Her health continued to decline but she courageously fought it. In 2015 she married Michael Sweeney. Their daughter Kira is now 3 yrs. old. Jodi had accepted Mike's two children as her own. Ten days after her 43rd birthday, in the early hours of Oct. 30, 2021, Jodi unexpectedly died in her sleep. The autopsy showed she had a blood clot in her lung. Other reports are still pending. Jodi was preceded in death by her father CH (LTC) Edwin Bowen, all 4 grandparents (Bowen and Petersen), and her Uncle Ronn Petersen. Jodi leaves behind her husband Michael Sweeney, daughters Kira Sweeney, Kianna (Dunn) Arante and Cheyanne Pennington, her mother Joan Petersen Bowen, brother Jason Bowen (Bernilyn), niece Natasha and nephew Austin Bowen, step-children Adriana and Jonathan, cousins Amy, Erik, Julie, Jeff, Nathan and Kari and their families, aunts Jeanne Cummings and Shirley Finneman, uncles Keith Petersen and Jerry Finneman, and many friends around the world. Gone too soon! She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of many. Rest in peace, Sweet Girl. We'll see you when Jesus comes. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m., Saturday at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to M.S. Society.
