Gruse, David A., 61, of Portage, passed away April 25, 2020 at home. Born August 10, 1958, in Johnstown, the son of Joseph and Loretta (Galanick) Gruse. Deceased family members include his parents; brother, Joseph S. Gruse; and mother-in-law Barbara A. Jubara. Survived by his brother, Ronald (Eileen) Gruse, Lilly; sister-in-law Chris Gruse; niece Ann; nephews, Andrew, Josh, Nick and Dylan; great nieces, Zoey and Cassidy; great nephew, Christopher and special cousin Bob Novak, Carol Novak and family. He will be sadly missed by his extended family Mary (Jubara) Gruse; Bill and Susanne (Jubara) Rusnak and family; Dave and Bernadette (Jubara) Kostan and family; Frank Jubara Jr and family; Frank Jubara, Sr and devoted friend and nephew Bryan Rusnak and his family (Lora, Brynlee and Brayden); and his beloved cat Popo. He was a 1976 graduate of Portage Area High School. He worked at the Bucorson Machine shop and Beth Energy Mine 32, prior to earning his RN degree from Mount Aloysius College. He worked as an RN at Ebensburg Center for many years and retired as a RN Supervisor from SCI Laurel Highlands in Somerset. He will be remembered for his compassion and dedication during his nursing career. He was a talented brick layer and after retirement assisted his friend Brannon Raptosh at Everstone Monument Co. He restored the historical Enderline Hotel where he resided and later named it “The Gruse Farm.” He was a dedicated member of TAP, Tri Township Water Authority, and the Dunlo Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, showing his 65 Mustang at car shows, planting wildflowers, and farming; and was well known for his sweet corn. Those that knew him well definitely appreciated his unique sense of humor. Services and Committal will be private. The Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage is serving the Gruse family.
