Koza, Albert A. "Dutch", 83, Portage, passed away September 22, 2020 at home. Born November 14, 1936 in Gallitzin, the son of Frank and Raphael (Kuras) Koza. Deceased family members include his parents; wife, Alice M. (Barr) Koza, and infant brother John Koza. Survived by daughters, Michele, wife of Robert L. Varner, Johnstown; and Deborah, wife of Mike Koenigsberg, Portage. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Aubrey, Bobby and Hailey Varner; and Abbey, Julianne, Albert and Michael Koenigsberg. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Brother of Josephine Bendzak, Cecilia Mentzer, Frank (Susan) Koza, Theresa (Michael Jr.) Enedy, Paul (Bertha) Koza, Bernice Koza and Raphael Koza. Former coal miner from Beth Energy Mine 33; carpenter for Ed Long Construction;  counter worker for both Long Hardware and Supply and D.W. Rhodes and retired from RE Michel Company. He was a founding member and past president of the Sacred Heart Ushers Club for almost 30 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served his parish by volunteering in the church choir, counting money and selling tickets. Served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Post 430 American Legion. He enjoyed building puzzles, woodworking and traveling to craft shows with his projects, watching his birds, playing cards ("did you bring your quarters"?), polka dancing, and watching sports; especially the Steelers and Pirates. He adored his grandchildren and loved their phone calls.  He was constantly bragging about their accomplishments. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Aunt Bernice Koza, who took such loving and good care of our Dad. Friends received from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage where the Sacred Heart Ushers will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Parish, Portage. Fr. Thomas Stabile, TOR celebrant. Committal in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military Rites by the Portage Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saint Jude's Hospital.
