Richard Pollock Obituary

Richard (Rick) Pollock, 85, of Portage passed away from pulmonary fibrosis Sunday, 16 September, at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born 30 June 1933, in Waterman, PA, son of John and Helen (Zelinski) Pollock. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly (McCreary) of Portage; children, Rebecca Gustin of Spring Grove; Brenda Price of Portage, and David of Washington, DC; granddaughters, Elizabeth Bellvia of Summerhill and Megan Goffigon of Union Point, GA; great grandsons Dominic Bellvia, Thomas Goffigon, Jr. and Roman Goffigon. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edward, Joseph and Frank, and sisters Mary Jackanic, Bernice Hvezda and Anne Ogden. Rick attended the Polish elementary school in Portage. He was an altar boy and a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church, Portage. After graduating from Portage Joint High School in 1951, Rick joined his brothers in structural steel and iron work, a career that spanned 44 years. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3. In retirement, Rick enjoyed making home improvements, reading western novels and trivia books, and spending time with his family; he especially enjoyed visits from his great grandsons. When his children were young and did something they shouldn't have, Rick would tell them "if you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough". You were tough to the end, Dad. We love you. Friends received from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, P.C., Portage. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday at Holy Family Parish, Caldwell Ave., Portage, Father Thomas Stabile, T.O.R., celebrant. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Portage Public Library or the Humane Society of Cambria County. Online condolences may be made at serenko-claarfuneralhome.com
