Paul A. Cooney

Cooney, Paul A., 92, of Cresson, passed away surrounded by his family on November 11, 2018. Born in Munster Twp., on December 8, 1925, the son of Charles and Matilda (Yingling) Cooney. Deceased family members include his parents, brothers, Thomas A., James R., and Charles M. Cooney; sisters Mary Margaret Schouten and Edna Elizabeth Barrett; son Tommy and daughter Cindy. Survived by wife Marcelle (Panek) Cooney and daughters Patty, Scottsdale, AZ and Joi (Beverly), Loretto. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He founded Cooney Brothers Coal Co. in 1955 with brothers, Charles M. and James R. Cooney. He loved golf, sports, work and life. At Paul's request, there will be no public visitation. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, 608 Main Street, Lilly. Monsignor John R. Sasway, celebrant. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to UPMC-Hillman Cancer Center, 5150 Centre Ave., Suite 1B, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
