Joseph Gruse Obituary

Gruse, Joseph S., 64, of Portage, passed away February 16, 2019 at home. Born March 6, 1954, in Johnstown, the son of the late Joseph and Loretta (Galanick) Gruse. Survived by wife of 41 years, Chris (Sherry) Gruse; daughter, Ann, wife of Benjamin Goughnour, Nanty Glo; son, Andrew Gruse, Portage; granddaughter Zoey Goughnour. Brother of, David Gruse, Portage; and Ronald (Eileen) Gruse, Lilly. Attended Elders Ridge College; US Army Veteran Staff Sergeant, stationed in Germany for three years and served seventeen years in the Army Reserve with the 130th Chemical Company. Worked at Beth Energy Mine 33 for 18 years and retired from Ebensburg Center after 20 years. Member of U.M.W.A; Portage Legion and Knights of Columbus Council Number 2275. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, casino trips and his motorcycle. He loved the music of the 50's and 60's. Friends received from 4-8, p.m., Thursday at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore, Father Joseph Nale, celebrant. Committal will be in St. Bartholomew Cemetery.
